APPG welcomes Minister for Climate, Environment and Energy to present to the APPG

The APPG for the Ocean was delighted to welcome Lord Benyon, Minister for Climate, Environment and Energy in the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to update the APPG yesterday.

The Minister joined the meeting to provide a short Departmental update on behalf of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs on UK and international ocean priorities. This was followed by questions from parliamentarians on the Government’s work to ensure the full potential of our oceans is realised.

We were delighted to be joined by a number of parliamentary attendees including former Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Rt Hon Thérèse Coffey MP, Shadow Minister for Climate Change Kerry McCarthy MP, Shadow Minister for Energy Security Dr Alan Whitehead MP and Shadow Minister for Flooding, Oceans and Coastal Communities Emma Hardy MP.

Many thanks to Minister Lord Benyon for the interesting discussion on the importance of ensuring that the ocean is protected and effectively governed.
